Do NOT close your claim with Iowa Workforce Development (IWD)

Your claim belongs to the state where you earned the wages (the liable state). Moving does not transfer it: you keep the same claim, weekly amount, and remaining weeks, and it keeps paying only while you stay eligible.

Update your address and keep certifying weekly

The claim stays with Iowa. The IWD Claimant Handbook states: if you move out of Iowa you must immediately notify IWD of your address change (mail may not be forwarded), and if you are required to do work searches you must contact the workforce agency in the state where you reside to register for work. You should still file your weekly claim in Iowa; benefits continue to be paid by Iowa until you begin working, exhaust benefits, or your benefit year expires.

Register for work in your new state if required

If Iowa requires it, register with the job service in Kansas (an American Job Center). Keep looking for work and log your searches the way Iowa requires; you must stay able and available for work to keep getting paid.
